It was Winter 1976 in my early 20s. I had decided to turn Pro Musician as a life in newspaper printing, even as a fantastically paid Linotype Operator was not for me. Attended auditions at a Blighty's Club, Manchester for Pontins Holidays, which of course then was a huge Company with places all over the UK and Europe. Was immediately offered Resident Pianist job at Prestatyn Sands (which still exists in 2022 but with an awful reputation under Britannia Hotels ownership). Back then Sir Fred Pontin was in command, and I met him and played for him on several occasions. So 77 to 79 I worked 7 months a year there as Lounge Pianist and Pianist for Adult and Children's Talent Shows. During this time I observed many Magic Acts, and watched, silently planning :) By end of 1980 myself and my wife had started working as Magicians for children and adults - this became a lifetime of entertaining that ceased in November 2019 - completely unaware of the pandemic just weeks away!
PICTURE: Yes, the very room I used to play in. A long lounge known as Snowdonia.
